About Us

Serving the people of Meigs County is more than a responsibility — it’s a commitment made by neighbors helping neighbors when it matters most.

The Meigs County Volunteer Fire Department is a rural emergency response organization serving approximately 217 square miles across Meigs County, Tennessee. From structure fires and vehicle accidents to medical emergencies, rescue operations, wildland fires, and water incidents, our firefighters and emergency responders stand ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our department operates from six stations strategically located throughout the county to provide rapid response to the communities we serve. The department’s fleet includes fire engines, water tenders/tankers, brush trucks, rescue and medical response vehicles, support units, and rescue boats designed to meet the unique challenges of rural East Tennessee.

Unlike large metropolitan departments staffed entirely by career personnel, Meigs County relies heavily on dedicated volunteers. These men and women leave their homes, jobs, and families at all hours of the day and night to answer emergency calls throughout the county. Whether responding during severe weather, in the middle of the night, or on holidays, our volunteers serve because they care deeply about protecting their community.

Our mission goes beyond fighting fires. We are committed to protecting life, property, and the safety of our citizens through emergency response, rescue operations, training, public education, and community service. We work closely with EMS, law enforcement, emergency management, neighboring departments, and community partners to provide coordinated emergency services throughout Meigs County.

The Meigs County Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves communities throughout the county from stations located in Georgetown, Decatur, Ten Mile, and surrounding areas. The department is headquartered in Decatur under the leadership of Fire Chief Jason Finnell.

Our department is always looking for community-minded individuals willing to serve. Whether your interest is firefighting, emergency medical response, rescue operations, or supporting the department behind the scenes, there is a place for people who want to make a difference.

When emergencies happen, Meigs County depends on volunteers who are willing to answer the call. We are honored to serve this community.
